International Autistic Issues: Special Event

Autistic advocate Helen Said gives a presentation followed by discussion on the experiences of Autistics from immigrant communities living in First World countries, as well as international Autistic issues. The presentation explores the unique needs and disadvantages facing Autistics of Colour and those from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds, including

  •         racial stereotyping of social differences
  •         problems with law enforcement
  •         pressures to mask Autism, race and culture
  •         bigotry promoted by religious fundamentalists in   immigrants’ country of origin

A further theme is the global rise of the Far Right, including Trumpism and RFK Jnr. This is followed by a call to action for Autistics around the world to stand together to continue pushing forward for our rights.
