Arts Therapy uses creative methods to help people of all ages live happier, healthier and more productive lives. There are a variety of Psychotherapy approaches that involve the encouragement of free self-expression through painting, drawing, sound, movement and more. Arts Therapy assists people to develop life-changing habits to empower themselves to cope with any of life’s various challenges.
When working therapeutically, Rae uses person-centred, strengths-based and peer support approaches to assist people to access both their internal and community resources. Rae has received the Graduate Diploma in Therapeutic Arts Practice from the MIECAT Institute and the Bachelor of Arts Psychotherapy from the IKON Institute. They facilitate in a multi-modality capacity, offering other art expressions such as narrative, music, drama and dance.
They have memberships with Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA), ACA (Australian Counselling Association), TPATH (Transgender Professional Association for Transgender Health) and AusPATH (Australian Professional Association for Transgender Health). They have also done Professional Development Training in a range of Psychotherapy Modalities such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), IFS (Internal Family Systems Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) and Rhythms and Regulation with Dr Cathy Malchiodi.
Rae regards these methods with caution, as they have the potential to be employed for the purpose of oppressing and manipulating people, particularly people from marginalised lived experiences and communities who were not involved in developing or evaluating these methods. They frequently advise those They work with to selectively adopt the techniques that are beneficial to them and modify those methods to better validate their lived experiences.

Rae offers strong knowledge and experience in supporting Neurodivergent, Chronically Ill and LGBTQIA+ people. They support practitioners to create a more affirming and inclusive practice, especially when working with trans, non-binary and gender diverse folks.
