Space Whale is a mental health service that draws on nature and creativity as tools for healing.
Space Whale is run by Liz McCarthy, a trans, non-binary, neurodivergent artist and Creative Arts Therapist. Liz is a Masters trained Art Therapist and member of ANZACATA.
Liz offers 1:1 art therapy, groups and workshops as well as community events such as Pride Poetry, an open mic night for the LGBTIQA+ community.

Liz holds a gentle and safe space that centres lived experience and uses the creative arts and nature as tools for exploration. They work alongside people to welcome what arises and connect more deeply with self and world.
Some approaches:
Creative arts - there is an opportunity to express in multiple modalities such as drawing, painting, clay, sound, movement, music, writing, poetry, collage, printmaking, photography/video and collecting & gathering organic materials.
Neuroaffirming approach - support specialised for neurotypes, sensory engagement regulation and play, parallel play / parallel processing, non verbal modes of expression, exploration of identity, strengths-based and affirming.
Trans and gender affirming practice - supporting trans and gender diverse people to safely explore and affirm their gender.
Other modalities which influence Liz's therapeutic practice - IFS / parts work, DBT, nature-based therapy, mindfulness and self-compassion.
Liz is committed to fostering a culture of connection and care for Country. Liz acknowledges the wisdom, resilience and creativity of all First Nations people and the creative practices and healing traditions that have supported humans for thousands of years.
