Thriving Autistically
An Online Wellbeing Event for Autistic Adults
Sunday 6th October-Friday 11th October (All times AEST)
Thriving Autistically is Neurokindred’s first online Autistic wellbeing event designed to celebrate all the beautiful & unique ways we support ourselves when we work with our Autistic ways of being.
Our aim is to cultivate a safe-enough space for connection to neurokin, rejuvenation and engagement with neuro-affirming mental health supports and skills.
Over six days, we’ll host over 20 activity sessions, special interest sessions and peer support groups, all led by lived experience facilitators.
These sessions will focus on managing sensory needs, self-regulation, alternate ways to express and connect with emotions, community connection, telling our stories, and ‘life hacks’ to mental health hygiene practices.
A particular emphasis will be engaging in the nourishing, regulating and mental health protective influence of special interests (SpIns).
-
Lived Experience Facilitators
Volunteer Autistic facilitators will lead sessions providing firsthand insights into effective self-regulation and emotional expression strategies tailored to support Autistic well-being.
-
Autistic Perspectives
Highlighting Autistic perspectives in these discussions promotes deeper comprehension of mental health challenges and recovery paths unique to the Autistic community.
-
100% Online
By delivering these activities online, we ensure accessible, inclusive participation, fostering community support and enhanced mental health awareness in a safe, stigma-free environment.
-
Accessible and Inclusive
We have prioritised making this event accessible to all Autistics but particularly those in Autistic burnout, those struggling financially, Autistic elders, those with chronic illness, and residents in remote areas.
Lived experience and connection to Neurokin are centred at Thriving Autistically.

Shannon Hilscher - Confetti Dreamer
Instructional Designer | Author | Researcher
Shannon Hilscher is an instructional designer, author, and self-proclaimed introvert who spent much of her life questioning why she felt out of place in a world perhaps not designed for her.
Shannon's journey of self-discovery led to an Autism diagnosis later in life, a revelation that has profoundly changed her perspective and fueled her passion for advocacy and storytelling.
As an author, Shannon published her first book, The Unexpected Adventure That Changed My World, through Confetti Dream Publishing, LLC. This allegorical tale explores themes of diversity, equity, and inclusion through the concept of segregated colour worlds. The protagonist's journey, inspired by discovering new colours and dreams, mirrors Shannon's own path to understanding and embracing her true self.
Her soon to be released book, Living Authentically Through Colour, shares her journey and ideas for embracing life authentically using a colour-infused version of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs as the framework.
Shannon's vision is to create a world where individuals, particularly women+, don't feel the need to mask to fit in, but instead, embrace their unique identities. Through her work, she encourages others to join a tribe of confetti dreamers—those who choose to live authentically and vibrantly.

Freya Pinney - The Process Repository
Freya Pinney, aka The Process Repository, is an Autistic artist working across media exploring concepts of identity.
"Autism blesses me with hyper focus, special interests and a thirst for theory. However, while I seamlessly absorb concepts and theories, I struggle to recognise what it is that others do not understand. This makes it hard for me to relate my arts practice to others and for me to discuss my work. I think fast and intrinsically link concepts through my own critical self reflection. Whilst I love creating I struggle with the social demands of the professional arts scene. These days I work in a home studio and utilise social media to share and discuss my work. I have a BA in Visual Arts with Hons from QUT and MA in fine arts by research from QCA, Griffith University."

Selina Peng - Neurocraft
Social Worker & Former Engineer
Selina is a social worker and former engineer drawn to the “spaces in-between” and tending the earth there.
She founded Neurocraft as a social venture to explore how social environments can authentically evolve to enfold those who are “othered”, by working with parents, community organisations and workplaces.
But what brings her most joy is experimenting with the co-creation of collective spaces that let inner selves emerge, in their own time, to be seen, heard and held.<
She delights in building peer communities that celebrate playful self-expression and gentle listening to cut through the noise and cultivate deeper connection to self and other.

Sidharth Chandran
Author | Advocate for AAC & Spellers | AAC Mentor | Blogger
Sid is a non-speaking Autistic author and advocate, based in Sydney, Australia.
Sid was born to Indian parents who migrated to Australia in the eighties.
He was diagnosed aged 2 but his own awareness of his difference and neurodivergence was when he was six.
As he grew older he began to realise that although he was non-speaking, he had an understanding of what was going on around him and how words worked and what they meant.
Through much trial and experimentation with different types of AAC he learnt to communicate using a text-to-speech device as a teenager but keeps the trusty Frenchay keyboard handy.
Writing in prose and poetry are his passion and his work is regularly published in the Australian Group Supporting Communication Inclusion (AGOSCI) InFocus newsletter.
At 32, he published his first book An Unspoken Story which documents his struggles with communication and sensory challenges and how his discovery of AAC was transformative for him.
“Minds meet in many ways. Words form bridges that move beyond anything else”.
Sid is committed to raising awareness of the experience of being communication challenged and to helping nonspeaking Autistics feel like they are not alone in their Autism journey.
He believes that the voices of persons severely affected by Autism need to be heard.
He is fond of saying that he “is a non-speaker, not a non-thinker” and “that lack of speech or behaviour difference do not mean lack of intelligence or feeling”.
The intersectional experience of being a person of migrant background and a non-speaking Autistic has influenced his experience greatly.
Sid works with the Council for Intellectual Disability (CID), Diversity and Disability Alliance(DDA), Multicultural Disability Advocacy Association (MDAA) and the Australian Group Supporting Communication Inclusion (AGOSCI).
He is on the Reframing Autism Intersectional Advisory Committee (IAC) and helped in the co-creation of the Welcome to the Autistic Community Pack.
